Oppo Reno 12 Series: Oppo recently launched its new Reno 12 series of smartphones. Oppo’s product strategy head Peter Dohyung Lee said that the company is working on bringing AI (artificial intelligence) features to cheap smartphones as well. Lee said that Oppo expects sales of the Reno series to grow by double digits consistently.
According to Peter Dohyung Lee, the Renault brand is very much liked in India and its popularity is increasing. Since 2021, we have seen double-digit growth in Renault sales every year. We hope that this growth will continue with the new series as well.
Oppo’s market share in India fell to 10.1 percent in the March 2024 quarter from 12 percent last year. Nevertheless, the company is confident that sales of the Reno series will increase.
Oppo launched Reno series in India
Oppo introduced the Reno 12 Pro 5G and Reno 12 5G smartphone models at the event, which have AI features to enhance photos and everyday tasks. The Reno 12 Pro 5G is priced at Rs 36,999, which has 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. The model with 512 GB storage will be available for Rs 40,999.
These models will be available for purchase from July 18. The Reno 12 is priced at Rs 32,999 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and will be available for purchase from July 25.
‘AI shouldn’t be just for expensive phones’
Lee said that this year Oppo’s generative AI features will reach 50 million users. In the last ten years, Oppo has filed more than 5,600 patents related to AI. AI should not be only for expensive phones and a select few. We will add generative AI features to all Oppo smartphones by the end of 2024. This year, Oppo will bring more than 100 generative AI features to its phones.
Oppo has partnered with Google and Microsoft for AI. Li also said that Oppo has promised that it will not use its users’ data to create its own AI.
